Frostburg State University Studio Members

My name is Erika and I am sophomore music education and performance major in clarinet at Frostburg State. Before attending Frostburg State I had been studying clarinet with various instructors, the most recent being Franz Reinhardt.

In 2005, I graduated from North Harford High School (NHHS). While attending NHHS I was clarinet section leader in the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band, as well as Alto II in the Bel Canto Choir, and A Capella Choir. My junior and senior years, I auditioned and was accepted into All County Band and Choir, as well as All State Choir. Also during these years, I was a member of the Harford Youth Orchestra as well as the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra (GBYO). With the GBYO I had the honor of touring Russia and neighboring countries in hopes of uniting countries with music.

During my years at Frostburg I will be studying with Dr. Mark Gallagher, and will participate in many music classes such as Clarinet Ensemble and Chamber Winds, FSU Wind Ensemble, Bobcat Marching Band, and the Chamber Choir. I received Talent in the Arts Scholarship as well as various academic scholarships to further my music studies at FSU.

I hope to attend graduate school to continue my study of music in hopes of later studying music therapy and alternative medicine, or pursuing a career in performance.

Ryan has been studying with Dr. Mark Gallagher for the past four of twelve years he's been playing while studying Social Science and History at Frostburg State University looking to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree.  Ryan is a 2001 graduate of Severna Park High School in Severna Park, MD.  While there he was a member of the two time state champion Falcon Marching Band, traveling to the Atlantic Coast Championships three times.  Since coming to Frostburg, Ryan has greatly expanded his repertoire, performing many solo and ensemble pieces including Lied for Clarinet solo by Luciano Berio, the Mozart Clarinet Quintet, and Trio in C Major by Joseph Triebensee.  He has also preformed with the Frostburg State Bobcat Marching band, University Wind Ensemble, the Williamsport Community Band in Williamsport, MD, and the FSU Clarinet Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Gallagher.

While not performing, Ryan loves to spend time outdoors, hanging with friends and generally loves taking life to the fullest. He is an avid reader of anything pertaining to the Civil War, and hopes to teach history in either middle or high school.  Ryan spends his summers back home in Severna Park, where he has worked at the local Subway for the past two years.  He hopes to graduate from FSU within the next two years; from there he's not quite sure where life will take him.

“When I’m not involved with the band or dancing, I spend my time representing the Kent Island Yacht Club as their princess.  I have attended many commodore’s ball and opening day ceremonies, but the highlight of my reign was the Queen of the Chesapeake Pageant, where this year I was a finalist.  I plan to be the clubs princess again next year and hope to go on to become the queen.”

Currently, Gwyn attends college at Frostburg State, during the summer and winter season, while she’s out of school, she teaches private lessons.

In the summer of 2006 Gwyn will be doing her Music Management Internship at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“I am Windy Neal, a Music Education major and part of Dr. Mark Gallagher's studio at Frostburg State University.  I graduated from Woodlawn High School as the tradition salutatorian for the class of 2002.  Now that I am attending Frostburg, I have grown as a person and a musician.  During high school, I have auditioned numerous of times for All-state bands and orchestras, but only played in the All-county band for three years straight. And in those years, I've also competed in the county's and state's solo/ensemble competition and received top scores."

"I am currently part of a wonderful ensemble at FSU.  However, I am not all about competitions. As the current president of Delta Omicron, and Vice President of CMENC, I tend to focus on my studies to be a well-rounded music teacher. My goal as a teacher is to build a strong music program for my high school in order to travel the United States to play for charitable events. But until then, I will be spending my summers as a cashier and short-order cook at a seafood carry-out, Crab Crib, in Catonsville, MD;  teachers need summer jobs too to keep the money flowing.  Although I am entering my third year at FSU, I don't think I ever will learn enough to be as good as Dr. Gallagher."

"Let the music continue to grow and plant love in the hearts of the believers.”

"The end is coming close for my school years at Frostburg State University. I am a second year senior who is getting ready to perform a senior recital on Nov. 12th, 2006, 3pm. I work hard throughout the year as the former president to two organizations, but still remain heavily involved in both and other student organizations. This year is all about wrapping things up for me. Although I am an education major, I believe that my true reason for being a music major is to bring out my talent of conducting. This will be my last year studying with Mark, and hope to make the best from the experience that I can. Good luck to everyone in the studio, no matter which one you are in, and have the best time of your life playing the clarinet."

Additionally, Windy is currently a member of the Bobcat Marching Band, the University Wind Ensemble, and the Clarinet Ensemble where she performs on both Bb clarinet and Bass clarinet.
